Nicolas Maduro is now in custody in New York City. What does this all mean? Today’s show breaks it down.
"There are winners and losers. The winners would be America, the very concept of deterrence and credibility, and the people of America," Crowder said. "The losers are America's geopolitical foes, international law, because it is no longer a thing, Canada, and Sean Penn.
This is a major step in reestablishing the Monroe Doctrine, which essentially means that the Western Hemisphere is our top priority.
"The number one superpower of the world, the United States, the gap between us and number two is so wide that the ground can't be made up," Crowder said. "If Venezuela becomes a more hospitable country, people are more likely to stay there."
Trump has also stated that this is beneficial for the United States, providing access to oil and increased energy stability.
Venezuela's total reserves of oil are $17.3 trillion.
According to Trump, "The oil will be sold at its market price, and that money will be controlled by me, as President of the United States of America, to ensure it is used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States."
“I am only pro-intervention if it's in America's interest. In this case, they happen to be aligned. But it does no one any favors to act as if the people of Venezuela were living under anything but tyrannical rule. So, that is a side benefit. It does not mean we should free everybody in countries that have never gotten it right,” Crowder said.
Power does, in fact, matter.
"Powerful countries have always called the shots. We are in a very rare moment in history where Donald Trump did not just act unilaterally. The people of Venezuela are happy about it, and a huge portion of the American people are happy about it, and they will be happy when they see the results. There was a reason for this," Crowder said.
