In an effort to “curb the mental health crisis,” the University of Michigan will no longer report letter grades on first-semester transcripts for freshmen and will replace them with a “pass” or “no credit” system.

Can the left get any more pathetic than this?

According to Campus Reform:

The University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) will stop reporting traditional letter grades on first-semester transcripts for incoming freshmen beginning in Fall 2027, replacing them with “pass” or “no credit” designations as part of a pilot program aimed at reducing student stress and curbing a “mental health crisis”.

Maybe, just maybe, if grading instills this much distress on college students, that is a sign that the university system may not be for them. The fact that the school has decided to favor ultra-sensitive feelings over basic expectations is embarrassing. Did the school even have standards for the incoming freshman class?

Students will still earn letter grades and receive instructor feedback in every course. However, those grades will remain internal, will not appear on official transcripts, and will not affect first-semester GPAs.

What is this going to solve exactly? As college becomes more and more expensive, the expectations have decreased to the point where feelings are prioritized over basic standards. The fact that this is considered “higher education” is a joke, to say the very least.

University officials say the policy is intended to help freshmen transition to college, support student well-being, and encourage students to take academically challenging courses without worrying that one difficult semester could permanently affect their records.

That will not help these people "challenge" themselves in the real world. After graduation, this participation trophy mentality will not exist. Students will one day have to face real circumstances with genuine failures, and the university system is setting them up to fail all under the fake guise of protecting mental health while charging massive fees. It is truly incredible.
