Has the left captured the Catholic institution just like it’s captured all the others? Today’s show breaks down the latest in Pope news.
On Monday, President Donald Trump criticized the Pope for being weak on crime and that he is terrible at foreign policy. Pope Leo responded and claimed his role is not political, he does not want to get into a debate with Trump, and that he will continue to promote peace.
"The message of the church, my message, the message of the Gospel: Blessed are the Peacemakers. I do not look at my role as being political, a politician," he added.
“We are not politicians, we are not looking to make foreign policies,” Pope Leo said.
The problem with this is that he often speaks on both foreign and domestic policy.
“If he believes what he said there, then there is no world in which it is appropriate for him to condemn our deportation policies or strengthen our border policy, but he did,” Crowder said. “He would be just as wrong as AOC on immigration policy. That is okay, and it is not trashing the Catholic church to say that.”
When Trump decreased deportation by upwards of 99%, is that what you voted for? When it comes to foreign policy, especially regarding poverty, it is important to note that God has called out how poverty is often a sign of laziness.
“Why does [Pope Leo] consistently go after the country that has brought more people out of poverty than any throughout all of human history and has more class mobility than any other country on earth right now?” Crowder said. “What has thrust more people into poverty than communism? I don't know that there is anything this pope seems to enjoy discussing more than American police, specifically. Is that what you voted for? It isn't what I voted for. I did not vote for this pope.”
