After the unfortunate DHS-involved shooting over the weekend and the less-than-helpful DHS response to said shooting, Donald Trump has made a change at quarterback and has sent Border Czar Tom Homan, hands down the MVP of the Trump Admin this year, to take over. Between that and Trump having phone calls with Mogadishu Mayor Jacob Frey and Governor Tampon Tim Walz, there were a lot of panicans on X saying that Trump was bending the knee. That's to be determined, but if nothing else, just the threat of Homan has caused Minneapolis police to ackshually start arresting leftist rioters.

How much of a shake-up is happening at DHS depends on whose anonymous sources leaked to whichever reporter you've read last.

Noem’s camp is focused on aggressive and showy tactics — fiery press conferences and Bovino marching through town with a squad of Border Patrol agents in tow — and is fixated on increasing arrest numbers. Homan’s side, however, is focused on the quality of arrests and getting the worst criminals off the streets, which they feel is a job best suited for ICE.

Whatever happened behind the scenes, in and out of the Oval Office, and on the phones Monday afternoon, by Monday night, the police started arresting people and doing their jobs. As Jorge Ventura (who does STELLAR work on the ground) reports, that wasn't the case prior.

Compare this to only twenty-four hours before, when you had the same leftist mob attacking the same hotels where the same ICE agents were allegedly sleeping: "‘WHERE’S THE LOCAL PD?!’ Federal agent pleads as he’s bleeding and seems disoriented, agents deployed tear gas and flash bangs to clear out the crowd of protesters vandalizing the hotel where apparently ICE agents are staying, according to protesters."

What happens from here is to be determined. I'll admit, I cringed when I read that Trump spoke to Frey and Tampon Tim on the phone. The ICE shooting over the weekend - let's call it a "bad shoot" - didn't happen in a vacuum. Frey and Tampon pouring gasoline on an already incendiary situation and encouraging citizens to interfere in law enforcement while telling local police to stand down put ICE agents in a dangerous lose-lose situation. Frey and Tampon Tim need to be held accountable.

I also think we were well past the point at which Trump should have invoked the Insurrection Act, after threatening to do so twice. The incident over the weekend and DHS's response to it have made it more difficult for Trump to do it now.

If you want mass deportations, that requires getting the public on yourside. The left messages to the public. DHS was more focused on messaging to a niche audience of very online fanbois. The left has been more successful in turning public opinion. Go figure. And while 80,000,000 people voted for Trump in November, not all of them are on our side now, seeing what they're seeing.

Trump acknowledging political realities and taking a step back to take a step forward isn't "selling out the base."
