Woke Chicago mayor freaks out on residents concerned about street takeover, claims "those could be my sons"

In the Progressive pursuit of mocking law and order and upholding a culture of pervasive lawlessness, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has decided to turn a blind eye to teen takeovers that have caused distress and concern among residents.
He has justified this by claiming he wants to get to the “root cause” of crime and by suggesting that initiatives like midnight basketball will solve the problem, despite many knowing that the teens taking over the streets aren’t the same ones playing basketball. Nonetheless, he argues that because one day one of those teens might be his son, he intends to veto a curfew ordinance that could have helped address the issue.

What does he mean when he says he knows what “it feels like to be unsafe and targeted”? Targeted by whom? If he doesn’t feel safe in his city, that says more about his leadership than anything else. However, it’s pretty clear he wants to shift the blame onto the victims by suggesting that youth lawlessness is tied to racism, rather than acknowledging a progressive refusal to hold people accountable.
Why is this even something he is so passionate about? Just give the residents a better feeling of safety and be done with it.
One of the dumbest things progressives believe is that juveniles should not be held accountable. Not only do these kids tend to know the difference between right and wrong, but discipline is literally how you instill fear in them to do the right thing. Nonetheless, announcing to the city that they won’t even get a slap on the wrist solely because of their age does nothing to address crime among Chicago’s youth.
According to ABC 7:
Residents and visitors to Streeterville have endured a pair of "teen takeovers" in the past few months, in which both times Chicago police said someone was shot. Now there is concern about what the curfew veto could mean for the community's safety this summer.
Downtown Chicago is a magnet for visitors during the summer, whether it's the ever popular Millennium Park or Streeterville, with its restaurants, shopping and nightlife. The curfew ordinance held out hope of more safety in the neighborhood. The promised mayoral veto delivered disappointment.
Johnson claims that holding kids accountable “does not work” and that what the city is currently doing is more effective. But if what the city is doing works, why isn’t it working? Additionally, he has shown that he intends to take no real action on the issue, so pretending they are doing something isn’t fooling anyone.
That being said, I would bet a lot of money that by the time Johnson finishes his mayoral term, youth crime and violence will have increased significantly. However, that’s just a hunch, and only time will tell if midnight basketball really addresses the root cause as he claims.
