Sunny Hostin: CBS cancelling Stephen Colbert for losing $40 million a year totally violates the Constitution or something

Strap in, because we're due for ten months of hot takes about CBS cancelling Stephen Colbert. Even though the former comedian-turned-Democrat propagandist costs the network tens of millions of dollars a year, they are keeping him on until May. That means ten months of leftists ignoring the problems of normal Americans because one of their own feels slighted. And, as you can imagine, the shrill harpies from The View did not disappoint.
According to Sunny Hostin, CBS making a smart financial decision is proof positive that our Constitution is being, quote, "dismantled."
ÂThe central issue is Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) claiming without evidence that Colbert is being cancelled as a part of the network's settlement with Donald Trump. In 2024, when CBS (allegedly) deceptively edited a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris that was so disastrous, hearing her answer questions verbatim would have likely cost her the election... which she ultimately lost anyway. Trump sued, calling it election interference.
CBS settled for $16 million ($24 million less than they lost on Stephen Colbert) because that was less damaging than going to discovery and allowing the Trump campaign access to internal documents. Anyone who has been privy to the Slack channels of media outlets where journalismers speak freely about how much they hate half the country that has a different opinion from them can understand why CBS would do so.
Probably with the "Blame Trump" strategy. As Nate Silver points out, it's bupkis.
The Late Show’s ad revenues reportedly plunged from $121 million in 2018 to $70 million last year amidst declining ratings: about 2.1 million per episode in June, down from 3.1 million at the peak, less than 200K of whom were “in the demo”, meaning the 18-to-49-year-olds that advertisers covet.
Also, the decision was made in June BEFORE the Trump settlement. But -- and this part is just hilarious -- Colbert's manager didn't tell him until this week.
ÂColbert says that CBS "created a monster" and he is going to spend the next ten months acting as such. It's the funniest thing he's said in years.
