Watch: Here's the new "Snow White" trashing the original movie because apparently, Disney hasn't lost enough money
Oh, Disney. All that sweet ESG money can't be worth this. The publicly owned media company (where Vanguard is the largest shareholder and Blackrock is #2) hasn't gone broke enough going woke. Their latest dumpster fire is the live-action Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Or, to be more precise, Snow White and Seven Mystical Creatures.
You would think the dwarf stuff would be bad enough. When you are so embarrassed by your movie you lie that it's not real, it's not a good sign for the movie's success. Now here is lead actress Rachel Zeigler taking a steaming grumpy all over the original movie that's been beloved for generations.
"It's not 1937. She’s not gonna be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love. She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be."
Let me be clear about something because, and I say this with love, a lot of y'all need to calm the f*ck down about the Barbie movie. This isn't an outrage thing. I'm not the one who will be losing more money on this than they did with Little Mermaid. Neither niece is going to drag me to it. I'll stop caring as soon as I press the publish button on this post.
But I have to ask, what's the point?
If you are going to take a movie people have loved for generations and change EVERYTHING ABOUT IT, why bother? It's sure as hell not because the movies are profitable. You can already tell this is going to get the Lady Ghostbusters treatment where they isolate one or two criticisms and make them the entire marketing campaign.
Then they are taking a fantasy character who sings to animals and turning her into a generic and unpleasant gender studies major no one wants to be around.
If you want a woke, feminist fairytale, create new content. You can still call the character Snow White. "Snow" can be a nickname for how she blows away the patriarchy. And the seven dwarves can be seven short kings she's competing against for a vice president of marketing job at Bud Light.
Again, this is Disney's investor's money to set on fire. It affects me zero other than for cheap content. But still, I just don't get the point.
