In 2022, China is the undisputed world champion of tyranny. As terrible as they were, Australia, Germany, and Canada have all been relegated to wrestling for second place. At least no one was debating eating their neighbor in an Australian quarantine camp.

But China is determined to have all the citizens drawing straws to see who gets eaten first all around Shanghai, fencing citizens into buildings and drilling doors closed.

Reuters reports that “it was not clear what prompted authorities to resort to fencing,” but I’m of the same mind as the people over at Hot Air, who write, “This reeks of something local officials felt obliged to do not because they expect it to limit transmission but because they’re desperate to show their bosses in Beijing how committed they are to the policy.”

This is totalitarianism for its own sake. Those in power need to exercise power on the people to remind them they’re in power. It’s that simple.

You may see this stuff and wonder how any group of people could just sit back and allow this to happen. Well, you are forgetting that our own government went nearly as far without much push back at all. But luckily, there are some Chinese people who are not sitting back and accepting these measures.

The conditions of the China lockdowns have been horrific. We’ve heard a first-hand account, and that was before they started drilling closed doors.

We never experienced anything like these lockdowns, but don’t pat yourselves on the back so quickly. Americans sat back and kowtowed to the CDC for nearly two years. This could have easily happened in the United States. We need to make sure we never allow our government to try it again.
