Los Angeles residents don’t have an easy choice to make for mayor. It is either dumb or dumber. That is it. Dumber, aka Nithya Raman, is proving just how foolish she truly is.
Raman believes that instead of hiring more police officers, the city should hire social workers to respond to some 911 calls. She justifies this by claiming Los Angeles tried to hire more officers, but they failed. One can only wonder why, but I digress. To claim she has earned the spot as the dumber candidate would be an understatement.
Nithya Raman Calls For More Social Workers to Make Los Angeles Safer NITHYA: “There's thousands of calls for service for things you don't need armed officers for like the issue you had with a person on your sidewalk … if there's not a crime happening.”GRAHAM: “There is a crime. They're doing drugs.”

On The Iced Coffee Hour podcast, Raman was asked if she believed we need more officers. She did not confirm or deny. Nonetheless, rather than keep fighting to make residents safe, she said they are just trying to keep the bar at a minimum, which is no standard at all, and that is good enough for her. Definitely paraphrasing here, but that seems to be what she meant. Nonetheless, that is how she changed the subject to discuss the insane defund the police stance of hiring social workers to respond to mentally ill drug addicts. Obviously, that is foolish. This is why she was called out on it, but then she tried to make it seem like she was not talking about people smoking crack in public. The problem with this is that people don't call the cops on others for simply breathing.
“There are thousands of calls for service for things you don't need armed officers for, like the issue you had with a person on your sidewalk who is clearly homeless, who is maybe not someone you feel comfortable talking to; LAPD would come out there and not be able to do anything if there's not a crime happening.”
She claims, “There is a whole set of calls coming in where people feel uncomfortable talking to an individual, but they clearly need some assistance; that is where you have these unarmed mental health responders,” adding that this could take “thousands of calls off of LAPD’s plate.”
This is not even what she was asked. Did she think this was a well-thought-out response? Not only did she dance around the question, but she made up nonsense about social workers saving the day. If social workers are making a difference to get these drug addicts help, why has no difference been made? If this could take thousands of calls away from LAPD, where is the evidence for that? She claims this pilot has already proved successful in other parts of the city, but fails to point to any data that proves it. Did she really think she was on to something with this? Nonetheless, none of this was relevant, as public safety should be the bare minimum for all candidates. And by regurgitating defund the police talking points, such as more social workers and fewer officers, we know exactly where she stands.
What a disgrace.
