At one point in American history, the left claimed that so long as it saved one life, authoritarian rule was permissible. This is why it’s bizarre that they would not do everything in their power to save just one life taken by the hands of a criminal alien.
Journalist Katie Couric tried to make the claim that just because the numbers say 14 percent of criminal aliens who have been arrested commit violent crimes, that means it’s immoral to enforce federal immigration laws. It’s unclear how she would feel if one of her loved ones were one of these victims, which is why Sen. Rand Paul said what needed to be said.
According to the Daily Caller:
During the interview on her channel, Couric quoted CBS News’s Monday reporting that out of around 400,000 immigrants ICE arrested during the first year of President Donald Trump’s second term, less than 14% had violent criminal records, according to an internal Department of Homeland Security document obtained by the outlet. Paul argued that the percentage should not be the focus, noting that if Couric’s daughter were raped by an illegal immigrant, the percentage would not matter to her.
According to Couric, because the number stands at 14 percent, this means it’s not about public safety, and also has nothing to do with getting rid of violent criminals.
“If your daughter gets raped by the guy that gets back out and he’s one of the 14%, I don’t think you’re going to quibble about whether it’s 14 or 64 … if you’re not going to turn over anybody, then that’s 0%,” Paul replied. “I don’t think the percentage — it makes a halfway argument to how much effort should we have. But if Minnesota’s not going to turn over anybody, the whole argument whether it’s 14 or 86 doesn’t mean anything.”
Firstly, as the law stands, an illegal alien does not even have to commit any crime post facto, as they never had a right to be here. Secondly, they use the term “violent,” which can only make one wonder, are they okay with illegals committing crimes, so long as it’s not listed in that category? Fraud is technically a “nonviolent crime.” You can also steal without committing violence. You can do a whole lot of damage to this country without ever being “violent.” Does this give them the right to be here? According to the law, it does not.
Even then, the point remains that illegal immigration is largely unpopular with the American people. The Trump Administration was given a mandate, and that mandate certainly was not in favor of open borders. In fact, it was a direct vote against that system. Why is this so hard for the left to comprehend?
Even if it was just 14 percent, that’s still an incredibly high number. There seems to be a correlation here. If someone disrespects our laws before they even get here, that entitlement often seems to correlate with more crimes. Why do you think that is?
Saying that “only”14 percent of arrests had something to do with violent crimes and that is why we should stop these deportation efforts, is an incredibly weak argument. That number should be zero. If this is the best justification the left can use, that tells you all you need to know about the policies they enforce, which is that it jeopardizes the safety of law-abiding Americans everywhere.
The fact that they call themselves the side of compassion is deeply unserious and a slap in the face to American citizens who just want a secure country. Do you need any more evidence that the left hates you? Because I don't think you do.
