When Organizers Refuse to Play His National Anthem, This Israeli Judo Champion Shows Pure Class
Judoka Tal Flicker just won a gold medal at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam judo tournament. Now normally when you win a gold medal in an international competition, they raise your country's flag and play your country's national anthem. Yet they didn't do it for this guy.
I probably should mention that Tal Flicker is Israeli? Big surprise there.
He also had to celebrate his victory under the International Judo Federation’s flag, because the emirate banned the display of Israeli symbols.Tournament organizers did not play Israel’s national anthem as Tal Flicker stood on the podium after receiving his medal in the men’s under-66 kilograms (145 pounds) category.
With the medal around his neck, Flicker sang his own “Hatikvah” while the International Judo Federation’s (IJF) anthem played in the background.
Flicker handled himself with class and dignity. Sadly, he probably knew what was coming beforehand. Israelis tend to be treated poorly, well, all the time, but particularly in international sports (see Rio 2016: Lebanese Want Israeli Team Thrown Off Bus and OLYMPICS: 'Tolerant' Egyptian Judoka Refuses Shake Hands With Jew. Gets Banned.).
WATCH-DISGRACEFUL. ISRAELI Tal Flicker presented with his gold medal at #JudoAbuDhabi2017 without Israeli anthem… https://t.co/7KaxB2sG7i— SussexFriendsofIsrael (@SussexFriendsofIsrael) 1509031078.0
Only one guess? Can you give me a hint (see CAUGHT RED-HANDED: Hateful UN Invents Fake Gaza ‘Victim’ to Smear Israel and WTF? John Kerry Actually Says “Israel can be Jewish OR Democratic. It cannot be both…”)?
The short answer is: the judo tournament was held in Abu Dhabi. Tell me again all about their "progressive" Islam. I'll be waiting.
