Sen. Patty Murray thought she was about to have a viral clickbait moment by claiming there was abortion in the water. The problem with this claim is that no one understands what she was trying to convey. The fact that abortion is a procedure typically involving a doctor, it is unclear how h20 can abort a “woman’s choice.” So, when she asked Lee Zeldin whether he believed water contains abortions, he was deeply confused.
Referring to a New York Times article, she asked Zeldin: “Do you seriously believe there’s abortion in the water, like some of the far-right activists are suggesting?” It is unclear if she truly misunderstood the article and is really that stupid, but she is referring to the water contaminants. You see, anyone with a fraction of a brain understands there are trace amounts of medicines in the water supply. No one said there was “abortion in the water.” No “far-right activist” suggested such a thing. Questioning if trace amounts of these pills exist is not the same thing as the water killing unborn children. The fact that she tried to make conservatives look like the crazy ones proves how ignorant she truly is.
In a POLITICO article from Dec., the outlet reported that pro-life activists did meet with EPA officials “with requests to add mifepristone — a drug used in more than two-thirds of all abortions — to a list of drinking water contaminants tracked by public utilities.” The outlet further reported that Student for Life’s head of policy, Kristi Hamrick, indicated that byproducts of these abortions may also end up in the water supply. Nowhere did it indicate she believes there is "abortion in the water.” The fact that Murray tried to make it look like Conservatives all over the country believe drinking water is causing abortion en masse is disingenuous, to say the very least.
According to Zeldin, he has “not had a conversation with anyone at the agency as far as abortions in water, and that he “doesn’t even know what [she is] talking about.”
The hearing was on funding cuts for the EPA. She should have focused on that. Instead of doing that, she tried to waste everyone's time by attempting to create viral moments to make conservatives look like fools, while she did herself zero favors.
The left has truly lost its collective mind.
