Michigan Chief Deputy Superintendent Dr. Sue Carnell may be one of the most powerful people when it comes to the state’s education system, but that does not mean she is what you would call “competent.”

Carnell had trouble and responded with giggles and absurd reasoning when asked by Republican Rep. Jay DeBoye how many genders there are.

While you know and I know — and your grandma knows — that the correct answer is “two,” as proven by the fact that that is all that exists in nature, she claims there are still “disagreements” on this issue. And while the left does, in fact, deny biological reality, that does not mean it’s up for discussion. They can live in gender-bender la-la land all they want, but there are still universal truths. And the fact that she wants kids to be just as confused as she is speaks volumes as to why students are struggling.

According to CBS, “Michigan has ranked in the bottom 10 states for fourth-grade reading” in 2023. This is in addition to the fact that “75% of Michigan’s 8th graders are not proficient in math.” Some reports even label the state as being “one of the worst in the nation” for education ranking.

But are you the least bit shocked? One of the state’s top‑ranking officials in the education department refuses to even acknowledge biology that even toddlers are versed in. This speaks volumes about the example officials set and proves they could not care less if they set students up for failure.

According to the New York Post:

“How many genders are there?” DeBoyer asked Carnell, who is seen smiling in the clip that has since racked up more than 2.4 million views.

It’s not funny. The correct answer is two—nothing more, nothing less. Of course, you already knew that.

When she didn’t answer, he pressed her again.

“Different people have different beliefs on that,” Carnell responded.

Correction: Some people refuse to accept biological reality. Call it a “belief” if you want, but really it’s a form of delusion, and that’s putting it lightly.

“Well, you can believe what you want but science says there’s two,” DeBoyer said.

“What I want people to know about gender identity is what’s in the update to the Michigan Health Education Standards Guidelines. It’s not about gotcha questions,” Carnell told Fox News Digital after the backlash.

What’s pathetic about calling this a “gotcha question” is that it was the simplest question in all of existence, and the fact that she refused or could not answer proves just how deranged these people are.

Michigan public school students deserve much better than this. The fact that this article even exists is deeply concerning but, sadly, no longer surprising in 2025. Yet, it is still totally unacceptable. Asinine. Totally asinine.
