Marc Maron Says Netflix Chose Dave Chappelle Over Trans Community and ‘That’s How Fascism Works in Business,’ Calls Out Bill Maher’s ‘Desperate Chasing of Relevance’https://t.co/Bt3EOIZww0
— Variety (@Variety) August 25, 2025
Marc Maron has a sad. Gone are the good old days where comedy was viewed as a vehicle for progressives to punch down on Americans who held an opposing viewpoint than them. Now, left-leaning comics are making jokes about the left, and Maron f*cking hates it. He appeared on the Obama Bros podcast to complain about that and about other comics being desperate for relevance, while he's forced to appear on a political podcast to find his own.
Maron spewed a lot of the usual. Theo Von is bad because he'll interview anyone. Bill Maher is bad because he thinks hating half the country isn't working out anymore. And then came old reliable. Dave Chappelle.
Chappelle made jokes about a topic the establishment said he wasn't allowed to. Netflix refused to bend the knee to said establishment. So Maron is throwing around the "F word."
Fascism is good for business. Netflix will just, you know, co-opt anybody that can take that algorithm. I used to do a joke about it—Netflix can become ‘Reichflix’ very quickly. When they had pushback from the trans community about Chappelle, they realized after several days that that community was not going to affect their bottom line at all. And they cut ‘em loose. That is how fascism works in business.
Yeah, none of that is fascism.
A company not letting its business model be dictated by a small group of well-funded activists is not fascism.
But also... complaining about Dave Chappelle making trans jokes? I checked the Louder with Crowder Dot Com website archives, and that hasn't been a thing since January 2024. Chappelle has made plenty of Trump jokes since then and has otherwise been lying low.
Additionally, when Chappelle poked fun at what well-funded activists said he couldn't, he did so from the left. He's a black man who was being lectured by a group claiming to be marginalized while they had the entirety of a political party, most of mainstream media, most of social media, and most of the entertainment industry having their back and looking to destroy anyone who didn't know what the proper pronoun or buzzword was that day. It didn't matter if they were JK Rowling or high school girls who didn't want to see a cock in their locker room.
Chappelle never went "LOL, trannys." His jokes were layered and well-crafted. It's why he's the GOAT.
Maron seems cranky that, while it's silly to say "woke is dead," it is at least in the death throes. This X-Twitter thread provides an excellent summary of where the left stands and how Donald Trump is benefiting from it.
There was this big idea that social media was this infinitely powerful tool that allowed a small # of progressives to shame a huge number of Americans into accepting their values. For a decade it seemed to be working. But it overreached and collapsed.

Meanwhile, Trump and the rightists are taking over the country with relatively little opposition, because progressives have basically removed themselves from the equation. They're screaming "transphobe" and "racist" at each other in little rubber rooms.

You may now return to ignoring Marc Maron.
