EXCLUSIVE: Nancy Mace Gets Tough Questions from Crowder Following the Congressional 'Nude' Situation
Rep. Nancy Mace vowed to drop her nudes on the House floor. Today’s show welcomed her as a special guest.
According to Newsweek:
Republican Representative Nancy Mace of South Carolina on Tuesday displayed a still of what she said was her "naked silhouette" from a video her former fiance took without her consent.
According to Mace, she is taking on the issue of Peeping Toms and voyeurism, such as filming people without their consent. She is especially concerned with these crimes because she claims to also be a victim of them.
Mace first accused Bryant and three other men of sexual abuse and other sex crimes during a House floor speech in February.
During the speech, Mace said she was a victim of sexual assault and stood next to an easel that featured the four men's names and photos and had the word "PREDATORS" in large font across the top.
Mace shared the nude image of herself during a House Oversight subcommittee hearing on "surveillance in private spaces" on Tuesday. The hearing was part of what she and other lawmakers on the panel have described as an effort to pass stronger legal protections for victims of non-consensual recordings and sexual misconduct.
"Democrats tout the Violence Against Women Act as being the holy grail for victims of these kinds of situations, but it actually does nothing for them," Mace said.
The South Carolina lawmaker said during the hearing that Bryant recorded and took photos of her and other nude women and that he filmed "rape." She labeled his alleged actions "creepy" and "criminal."
Mace wrote on X before Tuesday's hearing: "My bills will hold predators and rapists like Patrick Bryant accountable. I will hold the line for women and victims EVERYWHERE. With EVERY fiber of my being."
Despite there being all this evidence, the men have yet to be charged or convicted.
“This is the problem with South Carolina--it is a completely corrupt system," Mace said.
According to Mace, one of the attorneys for one of the “predators” headlines a fundraiser for the solicitor who is handling the case herself.
“The conflict of interest is massive,” Mace said, adding that the attorney general on the case is running for governor, while she may also run.
“There is a political bias, I believe, underneath,” Mace said.
Mace said she has introduced many bills to protect women against these sorts of crimes, as the Violence Against Women Act does nothing for victims of voyeurism. However, the bills do not protect men against false accusations.
"It has to do with real crimes and convictions--not false accusations," Mace said.
The Sue VOYEURS Act “aims to allow victims of video voyeurism to sue their offenders and prevent the unauthorized capture and sharing of intimate images and videos.” The Stop VOYEURS Act, “seeks to expand the very limited scope of the prohibition against video voyeurism under title 18, United States Code.” This legislation seeks to address this issue by strengthening existing laws and enhancing penalties for offenders. Currently, Title 18 lists voyeurism as a crime only in certain maritime jurisdictions and territories.”
“Those two specific things are what I have done federally,” Mace said. “I have also worked with state lawmakers to draft a bill to strengthen South Carolina state law,” adding that “we want to deter these people as much as we can on the very first offense, and it gets worse from there.”
