Jim Brown has Poignant Words on Trump Hate and the National Anthem

Brodigan
August 29, 2018

Jim Brown got a shout out from Donald Trump for saying nice things about Trump. So, of course, Brown was invited on Fox & Friends to say more nice things about Trump. Par for the course.

The NFL Hall of Famer had some strong words.

This president is accessible and he's different, he's challenging, and he pays attention to what I say...

We should look at ourselves first before we look at the president. We have to be able to, as citizens, bring something that the president can join forces with and triple the effectiveness of it...

We should never denigrate our flag and our national anthem. We should always be Americans first and we should work our butts off to make it a better country. But to not respect your flag and your national anthem is something that I would never do.

Ironically, Brown's statement is similar to comments Lebron James made (see Lebron James Goes Against #BlackLivesMatter Grain: It’s Time to Look in the Mirror… and OUTRAGE! Lebron James Says He’ll Stand for National Anthem. ‘All lives matter…’). Yes, I know Lebron has changed his tune. He said mean things about Lil' Donnie. He's also never going to be as good as Michael Jordan. Which has nothing to do with anything, but still needs to be said.

I bring Lebron up, other than as an excuse for the Jordan reference, for this reason: when it comes to giving back, Lebron seems like someone who puts his money where his mouth is. Imagine the national impact we'd make if instead of Jim Brown on Fox & Friends, it was Lebron James. Talking directly (more or less) to a president who is receptive to anyone who tells him he's pretty.

Regardless of who started it or who has been nastier in the Trump vs athletes beef, more can be accomplished if people put their egos aside and tried to talk.
