"I want to be clear that this is a political assassination. ... I don't care what his politics were. I care that he was an American."
I was impressed by this statement of Utah Governor Spencer Cox. There have been a number of issues where I pegged him as a RINO, especially in a state like Utah that should be an incubator for conservative policy wins. But this was a statement that Americans needed to hear in the immediate aftermath of Charlie Kirk's assassination.
And that's the keyword: assassination. This wasn't "gun violence," which seems to be the talking point the Democrat party has settled on. They think that since Kirk was taken by a bullet, this is the hook they need to get conservatives to join their gun control agenda. Nope. Even if this was "gun violence," none of us will respond by allowing the government to make it more difficult to protect ourselves and our loved ones.
The fact that this was an assassination and something that could have happened to any of us who are in the same line of work as expressing opinions that Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) don't approve of, the Democrat party's latest push for gun control, and get shoved straight up their ass.
As of this writing, they don't have the killer in custody. I pray to God he's taken alive.
I want to make it crystal clear right now. To whoever did this, we will find you. We will try you. We will hold you accountable to the furthest extent of the law. I just want to remind people that we still have the death penalty here in the state of Utah.
I'm still struggling with this, so I'm going to bite off of my buddy Lane, who lately, when I struggle processing everything that gets thrown at us, has turned into my north star.
I had no personal relationship with Charlie, and at times, I thought he was a little goofy. But it’s undeniable that he was a rockstar and achieved things few can dream of.
Moreover, he was, by all accounts, a phenomenal father and husband, and consistently glorified God in his work.
He cannot have died in vain, and it’s up to every person in the conservative movement to coalesce and continue to destroy the forces Charlie was working against.
