It is 2025, and I recognize that having Donald Trump as president again causes progressives to not be able to control themselves. Throw in this story taking place in Florida under America's Governor, Ron DeSantis, and expecting AWFL teachers to calm down and smile more is a bit of an ask. Still, you would have to be half a moron to not only attack a student for having a different opinion than you -- based on the fact that they have an interest in US History -- but to also go through the trouble of designing and printing out an "award" for no reason than to shame him in front of his classmates.
The student's mother, Crystal Marull, shared more insight on X:
The students in this history class had a 69% failure rate on the District End-of-Course Exam.
How much?
I'm a child.
Only my son and one other student scored in the category of "Excellent Understanding." You'd think she'd have awarded him a certificate of achievement instead, but no, in Alachua Schools such achievement is branded as fascism.
The good thing is that this is Florida and not Loudon County, Virginia. The teacher has been put on leave, and Florida's education commissioner is on the case.
A teacher chose to designate a student as the “most likely to become a dictator.” A parent brought this issue to my attention. I immediately took action to investigate the issue. I found probable cause and will take every necessary action to ensure this teacher never teaches… pic.twitter.com/TvSM4XmF52

Stories like this always take me back to 11th-grade US history. It was 1992. "November Rain" ruled the airwaves. A young Bernie Mac made us laugh and wasn't scared of you motherf*ckers. It was the Democrat primaries for president, and after a discussion on how the process worked, I asked my teacher after class who she liked best. I remember the awkward look of fear on my teacher's face because pushing your political opinion on students was considered wrong. But a curious kid was asking, so she said Paul Tsongas.
At what point in the last *counts on fingers* thirty-three years did that change? And when did teachers think attacking students for having an opposing viewpoint was acceptable? Teachers like this need to be put on blast until it changes.
