Eduardo Bolsonaro, the son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, joined today's show to discuss defeating the left and socialism in South America.
Eduardo is the most-voted lawmaker in Brazilian history after 1.8 million votes were cast in his favor. Supporters of his father protested in defense of democratic values over the weekend where it is estimated that 100,000 people were in attendance.
According to Eduardo, Brazil's electoral court decided that his father was no longer capable of running for president in the next election in 2026.
“It is not because he was accused of stealing, bribing, or something like that. It was because he had a meeting with ambassadors and he criticized the electoral process in Brazil,” Eduardo said. “In Brazil, there are some things you cannot debate, such as taxes and the electoral process. The people who are controlling Brazil decide what you can or cannot discuss on social media.”
According to Reuters:
Right-wing Bolsonaro, the subject of police probes before and during his four years in office, is facing an investigation into his alleged role in a campaign to undermine faith in Brazil's voting system, which culminated in a Jan. 8, 2023, insurrection by thousands of his supporters in Brasilia, the capital.
On Feb. 8, police seized Bolsonaro's passport and accused him of editing a draft decree to overturn the results of the 2022 election, pressing military chiefs to join a coup, and planning to jail Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
The former president, who cannot run for office until 2030, said his government never played "outside the four lines of the Constitution."
"With social media, [we had] the content necessary to bring up some light and stop the monopoly of information with the mainstream media,” Eduardo said. “They are trying to kill a spontaneous movement that was led by Jair Bolsonaro.”
Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes is investigating "digital militias" that have been accused of spreading fake news and hate messages during the government of Bolsonaro.
"We have no immunity to talk about whatever we want," Eduardo said. "If they have the chance, they will destroy you.”
