DOJ Sues Los Angeles Over Sanctuary City Policies
When Trump vowed to enforce federal immigration laws, that meant the entire country, even places that vow to protect criminal aliens at the expense of Americans.
The DOJ has launched a lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles and Mayor Karen Bass, challenging the city’s sanctuary policies introduced after Trump’s reelection. The DOJ argues that such policies violate federal law and claims that the city’s refusal to work with immigration authorities has fueled lawlessness, including rioting, looting, and vandalism.
Today, the Department of Justice sued Los Angeles over its illegal “sanctuary city” policies. Is this still what you voted for? Because I think it is.
“Sanctuary policies were the driving cause of the violence, chaos, and attacks on law enforcement that Americans recently witnessed in Los Angeles,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “Jurisdictions like Los Angeles that flout federal law by prioritizing illegal aliens over American citizens are undermining law enforcement at every level – it ends under President Trump.”
“Today’s lawsuit holds the City of Los Angeles accountable for deliberately obstructing the enforcement of federal immigration law,” said U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli for the Central District of California. “The United States Constitution’s Supremacy Clause prohibits the City from picking and choosing which federal laws will be enforced and which will not. By assisting removable aliens in evading federal law enforcement, the City’s unlawful and discriminatory ordinance has contributed to a lawless and unsafe environment that this lawsuit will help end.”
Only in America do we see politicians endlessly defending foreign nationals—including those accused of serious crimes—often at the expense of law-abiding citizens. However, these actions aren’t exactly legal, and some city officials will have to learn that the hard way. Still, this lawsuit was necessary because federal laws apply to everyone, everywhere, regardless of how determined some on the left are to promote the idea that no one is illegal.
