One of Bernie Sanders most shameless, pandering applause lines is when he goes on about free college. It’s also one of his most easily debunked. Everyone does it (see Mike Rowe Schools Bernie Sanders on ‘Free College for All’… and Even Chris Matthews DESTROYS Bernie Supporter on Free College). Most recently by the wind beneath our wings, Rep. Dan Crenshaw.
Crenshaw focused on one specific and overlooked component to all of Bernie’s schemes.
And you’re going to tax the hardworking middle class to do it.
Stop trying to buy off my generation with impossible promises.
And if you do, at least be honest about how to pay for it. The “1%” don’t make enough to pay for your programs.
Eventually you have to tax everyone. https://t.co/Qsglf9THHP

Bernie and every other Democrat’s plan is pandering to young voters, preying on their ignorance. Which I honestly don’t mean as an insult. But when you’re 16-22, having politicians say that they’re going to give you free things and make other people pay for it sounds like a good deal. Then as you enter the workforce you realize it’s a lie. Free college, free healthcare, free all the other things… it only works if EVERYONE’S taxes go up. Not just the millionaires and billionaires. Who are usually actually $250,ooo-naires.
Which is not to say going to college couldn’t and shouldn’t be made cheaper. Promote trade schools so that not everyone thinks they HAVE to go. Or has their parents pay for them to go just so they can party for four years. Ahem. Read Top 10 Reactions to “Aunt Becky” College Scam Indictment News.
Have it so that before you take out a student loan, you’re given a sense of how much you can expect to make and how long it would take you to pay it back. Maybe it’s not worth going into massive debt for a Masters in social justice studies. That would be good to know BEFORE taking out the student loan.
Slash administrative costs.
There’s plenty that can be done to make college more affordable. It’s just easier to promise everyone that you’ll make it free.
