Chicago Mayor Discusses Slavery After 40 People Shot Over The Weekend

It has been over 150 years since the United States abolished slavery. This means that no one alive today was ever a slave and no one alive today owned slaves. This is far from rocket science or novel information. This is why it would imply that anyone who continues to blame their problems on slavery has got to be objectively stupid. There is no other way someone can genuinely believe slavery still causes problems today. This becomes an even bigger scandal when the mayor of one of America’s major cities spouts such nonsense.

Thirty-nine people were shot in Chicago over the weekend. Rather than focus all efforts on ending this violent crime epidemic that continues to take the lives of Black Americans, he has decided to bring attention to slavery. While this will do nothing for the community he pretends to represent, it is unacceptable for a mayor to pretend to help the American people when that could not be further from the truth.
Ahead of Juneteenth, Mayor Brandon Johnson signed Executive Order 2024-1, establishing a Reparations Task Force to develop a Black Reparations Agenda. This Task Force is an example of the Administration’s dedication to co-governance, and in partnership with members of the Aldermanic Black Caucus, the Mayor’s offices of Equity and Racial Justice and Business, Economic and Neighborhood Development, and other key City departments, will conduct a comprehensive study and examination of all policies that have harmed Black Chicagoans from the slavery era to present day and make a series of recommendations that will serve as appropriate remedies.
While pretending to study racial justice will not do much to bring “justice” to those suffering from the crime epidemic in the city, it is astonishing that he continues to get away with wasting resources on fake initiatives that help no one, including the so-called victims of slavery that are somehow alive in 2026.
To call Johnson pathetic would be an understatement.
