Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party voted down a bill yesterday that would have prevented euthanizing mentally ill Canadians. Conservative MP Ed Fast’s Bill C-314 would have stopped people solely living with mental illness from ending their lives.

Specifically, the bill would have amended the Criminal Code to "provide that a mental disorder is not a grievous and irremediable medical condition for which a person could receive medical assistance in dying."

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) is set for March 17, 2024.

Basically, if you are depressed the Canadian government believes you should just die and be put down like a dog.

The bill was supported by the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention as well as the Society of Canadian Psychiatry.

“Is this the sorry state of our mental health system? Millions of Canadians oppose the government's fascination with assisted death,” said Fast.

Minister of Health Mark Holland responded by saying that “there is not one among us in this House who does not have people they love who are deeply vulnerable and have been in a state of mental health crisis. Every single person in this House wants to make sure those people get the support and strength they need. That is why we are making critical investments there."

He added, "We also have to make sure, for the people who are trapped in mental illness and in deep, profound suffering, that we examine the best way to deal with those circumstances. That is why we are working to reconstitute the joint committee so that we can look at this process and look at how to responsibly deal with these issues in a way that respects and protects vulnerable people.

Your mental or physical state does not define your worth in life. Everyone, no matter what is going on, is worth human dignity. A person should never be intentionally killed.

It also corrupts medicine by redefining “care” by including killing.

This is also too much of a slippery slope. Progressives used to say that this was literally for people who were brain-dead and only had 30 seconds left to live. Now, you may just be having a bad day and doctors can go ahead and pull the trigger.

Human worth is not something you can measure, no matter how hard progressives try and convince people that they can.

Progressives like to claim that humans should “Have a right to Die.” Or that you should be able to “Die with Dignity.” Those are absolutely reprehensible statements that are completely false.

How does killing someone help them? That is such a ridiculous statement. A “Right to Die” actually trumps any “Right to Life.”

This may subsequently put cultural pressure or an economic incentive to some marginalized group that the government believes is better off dead.

No matter how much someone is suffering, assisted suicide is never justified.

Suicide is nothing that should be glorified and this is yet another reason why we should keep the government out of healthcare. The last thing we want is their progressive mentality starting to make medical decisions.
