Highway Officer Shot, Heroic Bystanders Swarm the Scene to Subdue Assailant and Aide the Officer
Here's your periodic reminder that good people exist. It doesn't start off that way. A California highway patrolman was shot during a skirmish at a traffic accident. That's when bystanders ran TO THE SHOOTING to subdue the assailant and treat the downed officer until help could arrive. Warning: parts of this video are graphic.
When you start thinking that all of California is “Commiefornia”, remember this: These bystanders in San Diego detained a man who’d just shot a CHP Trooper & provided aid to the Trooper. pic.twitter.com/qocYIGIGs0

According to Fox 5 San Diego, the unidentified officer was investigating a traffic collision. At one point, the officer became involved in a struggle with a pedestrian. A single gunshot was fired, and the officer was struck in his right thigh. He is listed as in serious, but stable condition.
There aren't details as to how the officer was shot. A 25-year-old man has been arrested. The suspect will be booked on appropriate charges “once they are explored and determined.”
It's not said in the news article, but I'm guessing the bystanders saved the officer's life. The officer could have bled out, or the assailant could have fired more shots.
None of that crossed the mind of these samaritans. They only saw someone who needed help. God bless them for it.
