When city officials are so incompetent that they cannot even be bothered to do their most basic job duties, which is to uphold public safety, that’s a sign the city is a total failure. The City of Los Angeles has doubled down on these failures, as they blame Palisades Fire survivors for failing to clear brush in the timeline the city demanded.
Palisades Fire survivors furious after getting brush clearance fines from city: 'Insulting and cruel' https://t.co/abEBrlt9MS pic.twitter.com/gGNjMzQjiP

Has anyone been held accountable for the fact that the reservoirs were empty at the time of the fire? Has anyone been held accountable for the fact that firefighters knew the threat of the fire and refused to babysit the flames while knowing there would be greater than 100-mile winds? Is anyone going to be held accountable for the failing fire hydrants? It would appear not, but that won't stop the city from holding victims accountable for the preventable mess they created, and it’s reprehensible, at best.
According to the New York Post:
Residents of Pacific Palisades are furious and insulted after owners whose homes burned down in the deadly fires last year received brush clearance fines from the city.
“This is insulting and cruel. We have no house and we have no brush,” Carol Sandborn, a resident who lost her home of 40 years, wrote in red ink on the invoice and sent it back to the city. “I was a little astonished.”
LA Fire Department brush fines are penalties issued to property owners in high-risk zones who fail to clear hazardous vegetation, ensuring critical defensible space to slow the spread of wildfires.
While the incompetent Mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, claimed no one who lost their home should receive these penalties, it’s still proof that the “city is working against you,” said Sandborn.
While the city should be doing everything in its power to make sure the mess they helped create is fixed as soon as possible, the best they can do is issue tickets to the fire victims, assigning as much blame on them, while they fail to hold themselves accountable. If you are surprised by this, you are not paying attention.
