Bill Burr on PC Culture in Comedy: "Drive a Bus Right Through It."
Bill Burr guested on the Jim and Sam Show for a hysterical conversation about "this current climate" and how to deal with PC culture in comedy (see This Radio Host Has the Perfect Response to Louis C.K. Outrage and Jimmy Fallon Cowers to Outrage Mob, Cancels Norm MacDonald Interview). Pour yourself a cup of coffee and take twenty minutes off of your day. The whole clip is worth a watch.
This quote from Bill Burr about dealing with the media was my personal favorite.
How have I survived in this 'current climate?' I wasn't sure if you meant the previous climate, or a future climate. Because I'm not saying anything wrong or mean-spirited. It's like when people try all that gotcha shit, I'll just throw it back at them. "So what do you think about Louis CK?" I don't know, what do you think about him? It seems to be on your mind.
I'm trying to promote a movie. You're trying to end my career. You're hoping I say something stupid so that you can get a bunch of clicks.
When 98% of the entertainment writers are 117% woke leftist doucheburritos, they create "this climate in comedy," interviewing comedians but shifting the conversation to the day's current outrage. Instead of things like the comedian's career. Or comedy at all. If anything, this new attitude of woke first, funny never is what's really responsible for "our current climate." Especially if said comedy offends so much as 1/1024th of the population. Too soon?
Thankfully there are still cats like Bill Burr, Jim Norton and Norm MacDonald out there with the balls to drive a bus straight through it.
