See this banana? Someone called it "art," and you won't believe how many MILLIONS it sold for
This story gives the term “scam artist” a whole new meaning.
In 2019, three editions of a banana duct-taped to the wall sold for $120,000 and $150,000. That same “art” piece sold for over $6 million in New York on Wednesday.

According to USA Today:
Maurizio Cattelan's art installation "Comedian" sold at auction at Sotheby's in New York on Wednesday, purchased by a Chinese cryptocurrency entrepreneur for approximately $6.2 million.
The final sale was roughly four times the initial estimated value, which Sotheby's had listed between $1 million and $1.5 million.
All of this is important to keep in mind when considering that Cattelan's "Comedian" is a single banana, reportedly purchased on the day of the auction for $0.35 according to the New York Times, and duct-taped to a blank wall.
So what happens when the banana starts to rot? Did he think of that when forking over $6.2 million?
And at this point, you can’t even call the artist a scammer considering that people know this man is a total troll but they hand over millions for reasons that will never be comprehensible.
Maybe this is a rich people joke to the buyer but it’s unfathomable why anyone would pay that much for a banana that costs less than $1. The “artist” also mocks these people since he calls the banana “Comedian.”
The buyer on Wednesday was Justin Sun, founder of the Tron blockchain network, who outbid six others in the auction. He paid in crypto, Reuters reported.
"This is not just an artwork," Reuters reported Sun telling Sotheby's in a statement shortly after the purchase. "It represents a cultural phenomenon that bridges the worlds of art, memes, and the cryptocurrency community. I believe this piece will inspire more thought and discussion in the future and will become a part of history."
You can’t even feel sorry for these people after they say crap like that. And for the record, I don’t think it’s right that the “artist” is taking credit for the banana because that’s technically nature and he did nothing to create it.
Nonetheless, the fact that the buyer claims this “represents a cultural phenomenon that bridges the worlds of art, memes, and the cryptocurrency community” proves how delusional all these weirdos are. And there is no way “this piece will inspire more thought and discussion in the future and will become a part of history” other than to mock these people into oblivion.
This story is so absurd that these people should be investigated for money laundering.
