YouTuber Explains Why He Quit His Job as a Cop. HINT: It Involves Rayshard Brooks
To say that the difficult job police officers have has been made more difficult lately is an understatement. Especially thanks to Fulton County DA Paul Howard charging an officer with FELONY MURDER for defending himself against Rayshard Brooks (see BREAKING: OFFICER CHARGED WITH FELONY MURDER FOR SHOOTING OF RAYSHARD BROOKS and THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FULTON COUNTY DA PAUL HOWARD). YouTuber Mike the Cop saw this and decided that it was now too much of a risk to his family to stay a cop.
Why I Am No Longer a Cop (Not clickbait)youtu.be
[I saw how] the officers who simply did their job and did what they were trained to do could be literally railroaded without due process, thrown under the bus by their department and their city. Seeing that stuff made me realize that now I'm not just be asked to sacrifice my life and my family is not just being asked to sacrifice my life...now I am being asked to sacrifice the financial future and well-being of my family, in case I was thrown under the bus, or criminally charged, or ended up getting sold up the river for simply doing my job.
I'm okay with putting my life on the line. I'm not okay with the reverse, putting them on the line and risking everything that we built as a family to get tossed away, simply because of the political motivation of someone I have nothing to do with.
If you have friends and family members who are police, you've heard similar concerns. I was talking to a friend recently who said the city council pretty much let cops know that if they so much as touch someone, they're going to get fired. He now has no idea how he's going to be able to do his job. Every day, cops go out knowing that a split second decision could determine whether they make it back home or not. Now in that split second, they have to worry about the health and future of their family, because they know they'll get thrown under the bus if a politician thinks they can score a single political point in doing so.
"But Brodigan, the protesters just want bad cops of the streets."
Bullshit. Most of these people don't even remember the name George Floyd. The activists are going after ALL cops and elected officials have made it abundantly clear whose side they're on. Don't be surprised if more police officers make the same decision that Mike the Cop did.
Exit Question: Can you blame them?
