There was a point in my life where, if I ever found myself writing for a show funnier than The Simpsons, I’d wear it as a badge of honor. Sadly, being funnier than The Simpsons really isn’t much to brag about. Nor does it seem very difficult (see ‘Simpsons’ Creator Matt Groening Breaks Silence on Stupid Apu Controversy and ‘The Simpsons’ Removes Apu Character for Being Politically Incorrect). Especially criminally unfunny bits like their take on Trump vs The Squad.
The Simpsons used to have the most brilliant writers, like Conan O’Brien. And people who went to Harvard, like…Conan O’Brien. But this is something that could have been written by RESISTTRUMPSUCKSCISPOWER in the Vox message boards. And these are the videos people know The Simpsons for these days. Seriously. When was the last time you remember that laugh out loud episode? Or any episode? For me, I take it back to 2008, where the first ten minutes of their 2008 primary episode almost killed me.
But that was then. When writers were concerned with entertaining America.
It didn’t have to be like this, The Simpsons. I’ll always remember how you used to be.
