WATCH: Jon Stewart Praises Donald Trump's DOJ, Criticizes DC Spending
Jon Stewart praised Donald Trump's Department of Justice for fulfilling its promise to 9/11 first responders, saying the claims were going through faster and people were finally being cared for. There are two videos here, both overlap a little. The first, from Ryan Cale's tweet, is an unedited version of Stewart's praise of Trump's DOJ with a call to Congress to properly fund the 9/11 victim's fund. The YouTube video following it from MSNBC, contains Jon Stewart's dig at DC's opulent spending.
Jon Stewart is a card-carrying Democrat. But at least here, he's being intellectually honest. Which I cannot always say for even some conservatives. He's not blowing smoke up Trump's ass, nor is he saying Trump is Hitler. He's just acknowledging that at least in this instance, the DOJ under Trump is actually fulfilling its promises and duties to the victims and first responders of September 11.
But there was a lead up to the Trump discussion, one a little more spicy. Jon Stewart got a bit testy with the opulence in DC as first responders went without a little governmental love. Check out the beginning of this video:
"I understand what a town of fiscal responsibility this is. As I stood in the marble rotunda laced with gold, I thought 'We have to be very careful not to waste money on first responders with cancer.' This is nonsense."
Government has very few real responsibilities and duties. Eliminating cow flatulence is not one. Telling people how to live their lives is not one. Promising abortion is not a governmental responsibility. Promising healthcare or retirement to every single citizen is, I'd argue, not the role of government. Writing checks for you to go to college to major in dance, gender studies or even philosophy... not the government's job.
But I could argue government helping out the people who responded to the September 11 terrorist attack is at least a nice gesture. Maybe we could reallocate some funds from studying why lesbians get fat to the men and women who hero-ed up during an actual terrorist attack on American soil. Seems the 9/11 first responders could use a little more help than the pudgy lesbians on a first-name basis at Krispy Kreme.
