Donald Trump decided enough was enough with the rampant crime in Washington DC, and announced he's doing something about it, leading to an MSNBC leftist's claim it's one big distraction from Jeffrey Epstein. The rub there is that the only people who think Trump's handling of the Epstein files is affecting his poll numbers are cable news journalismers wishcasting that it's affecting his poll numbers. Just ask...checks notes...CNN?

Trump announced he is invoking the D.C. Home Rule Act. DC police are now under direct federal control.

We covered the conference live on the show this morning. There is some debate over whether or not there is record-breaking crime or just way too much crime, but less of it. It all depends on how you want to nitpick over rhetoric and claim you are "fact-checking.

The bigger issue is what a distraction this has become from the left and the media (but I repeat myself), wanting to push the talking points that, after ignoring anything having to do with Jeffrey Epstein for years, the way Trump is handling the Epstein Files is the most important think happening in America and the one thing that will cause his base to turn on him.

Multiple things can be true. Trump's handling of the files has been, at best, inexplicable, while it is also laughable that this is what the media is focusing on after focusing on egg prices (that have gone down) and deportations (that are popular) haven't yielded the desired results for them.

According to Eddie Glaude over on MSNBC, "[Trump's] actually trying to give his base red meat to get them off of the Epstein story and it's on the backs of citizens in Washington, D.C."

The problem with this, as outlined by CNN's animated polling guru Harry Enten. Google searches for Epstein are down 89% from just 3 weeks ago. Also, Trump's approval rating is holding steady and much higher than that his first term. Also, only one person -- not one percent, but one person -- when polled said the Epstein Files were the most pressing issue.

Also, and this is the most damaging part, "Donald Trump has some of the best political instincts of any politician... on this issue, you are seeing it full and clear."

Methinks doing something about violence and crimes in our nation's capital might fall under "best political instincts," to the dismay of everyone work at MSNBC.
