Sometimes you guys have to take the "L." One of your players gets assaulted on the court. You side with the person doing the assaulting because she ranks higher on the left's pound-for-pound most marginalized rankings than the girl on your team does. You get called out for it. The best thing to do would be to just admit you f*cked up. Instead, Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White tossed the word salad of platitudes before telling haters to go to hell.
Tl:dr. Sophie Cunningham was getting too popular in the WNBA after pointing at someone. The WNBA hates it when people start to take an interest in their league. Sophie then, when asked by a reporter about opposing boys in women's sports, said she does. The WNBA and the media really hate that. A rival player almost takes her head off *maybe* as retaliation. Stephanie White, Sophie's coach, went out of her way to defend the rival player.

Just like if a male coach ever sided with the opposing team over something so flagrant, even if not for silly woke 1 reasons, people called for White to be fired, most notably by Indiana Fever Superman Dave Portnoy. It also isn't the first time White hasn't had one of her players' backs (see Clark, Caitlin, and Punch, Throat), but that's neither here nor there.

Stephanie addressed her haters. She claimed not to see what everyone else saw. Love is love. Also, go f*ck yourself.
The reality is with me, I will always lead with love. I will also lead with grace. I will always lead with humility. And I will always lead with integrity. Doesn't mean I'll always get it right. I'm also human. The hate, the fear-mongering, the divisiveness, the stuff that's trying to hijack our league will not win.
Here comes a rather impressive collection of platitudes and clichés.
We are united. We are connected. We will not be divided. Every day, these women put their a** on the line. Every day. When they go low, we go high. Love will win, grace will win. Humility will win and kindness will win. I stand by them, I will always stand by them. Everybody else can go to hell.
A male coach would have just admitted he was wrong. But then again, a male coach would have had his player's back in the first place.
What happens next, because the WNBA is not a real business, is White, DiJonai, and the WNBA media will whine that they are being "bullied" on the internet. Again, not being a real business, the WNBA doesn't know how to handle sports fans getting a little too passionate. A handful of tweets they can accuse of -isms and -phobias will be used to attempt to silence any criticism.
Also, and somewhat surprisingly, they didn't push Sophie Cunningham out there yet to apologize for her neck getting in the way of being clotheslined.
