When the shocking news broke that Sophie Cunningham, a female athlete, didn't think boys should be allowed in girls' sports, there was a question as to whether she would apologize. Cunningham believes that girls should have the same opportunity to learn, grow, develop, and connect with their peers through sports that she had and that Lia Thomas had when s/he was Will Thomas. Instead of bending the knee while declaring her pronouns, she is quadrupling down AND calling out the WNBA media.

The interview above took place before the one below. I wish people would date things when they aggregate them, but I also don't care enough to look it up myself. Turns out the ESPN interview that started this brewhaha took place in February. Though it's unclear if Sophie ever spoke out on the issue before at any point in her life that ESPN dug up, or if she just liked a meme on Instagram, and that's why ESPN asked her. The left thinks both are equally problematic.

Either way, Sophie said what she said, she stands by what she said, and she thinks the WNBA should be open-minded and tolerant of opposing viewpoints. Such as the people demonstrating outside SUPPORTING women's sports (even though critics call that being "anti trans").

I think this is a great opportunity for the WNBA ... you know, they preach diversity and being inclusive. So what a great opportunity for them to actually be that.

A few days later, sports reporters were still asking her about politics. And while mentioning people hiding behind screens, Cunningham wondered why sports reporters never seem to want to talk about sports.

Cunningham had ample opportunity to bend the knee, and I'm sure plenty of people in her ear telling her to do so. Now the only matter is her dealing with being asked about this every day for the rest of her life. But who knows? Maybe Sophie taking a stand will help attract a new audience to watch and support women's basketball.

As much as the WNBA hates that happening.
