At one point in American history, we had a sleeping potato allegedly in charge of the nuclear codes. The term “allegedly” is used because, while to many people around the world it looked like he was in charge, he was really paraded around by faceless bureaucrats who were making every decision behind closed doors. Nonetheless, that administration tried to turn this country woke. The people didn't like that, so they voted against everything those bureaucrats stood for. Sen. Chuck Schumer does not seem to have gotten that memo, which is why he's fighting for policies that no one cares about.
While real American struggles are of no interest to Schumer, he has made it clear what he truly stands for—the LGBTQ agenda. In that pursuit, he announced plans to designate the pride flag as a congressionally authorized flag.
This proposed legislation comes after the National Park Service removed a flag inside the Stonewall National Monument in New York City's Greenwich Village.
According to ABC News:
The site was designated a national monument by President Barack Obama in June 2016, becoming the first federal monument dedicated to LGBTQ+ rights.
The communications office for NPS, which is overseen by the Department of the Interior, confirmed the removal of the rainbow flag in a statement to ABC News on Tuesday morning. It said that, under federal guidance, "only the U.S. flag and other congressionally or departmentally authorized flags are flown on NPS-managed flagpoles, with limited exceptions."
The pride flag inside the monument was permanently installed by NPS in 2021, and was the first pride flag to be flown over federally-funded land.
Activists have questioned the timing of the removal, implying that far more sinister motives are at play.
"It's a targeted attack on the community, right? Because the flag was there. It's not that they never gave permission for it to be erected. They did give permission for it to be erected, and now they're using some legal language to try to make an excuse for taking it down," Menendez said. "Why now? That's the question the administration needs to answer. Why now? It was already up, and my response is, it's solely based on hate."
This is unlikely to be the case and is irrelevant to the proposed legislation. The real concern is that leftists have decided to take small fractions of the population and check them into boxes, while the majority are not afforded these privileges.
It should not be the business of the federal government to affirm people's insignificant bedroom preferences. We don't need flags affirming people's feelings, especially when it's exclusionary to the majority of the population.
In addition to that, it makes this country look unserious. The government should be sending a message to the globe that America is the leader of the free world. Promoting flags that have nothing to do with national interests mocks our abilities as a country.
You can also respect all people, regardless of bedroom interests, and still not make it a priority to display their flags dedicated to that. Why is this so controversial? A flag flown on government property should, at the very least, be representative of all Americans. The problem with that, per leftist logic, is that the left despises most Americans. So, progress to them is dedicating inanimate objects to a small minority. That's not inclusion; it's exclusion on steroids.
Worst of all, the American people are sick of the culture war. They are sick of being told who to affirm and what orientations must be prioritized. They are done with every inch of our culture being consumed by this ideology, and people like Schumer should really learn that if the left wishes to stay relevant. But this is precisely why they lost the election and will continue to lose, as they fight to affirm feelings at the expense of the seriousness of this country. But what else is new?
