In protest of the nationwide dinners surrounding turkey, PETA has displayed a human on a cutting board with his legs sprawled like a cooked bird to stick it to the meat-eaters this Thanksgiving.
Feast your eyes on this! In time for Thanksgiving, a nearly naked, “trussed up” PETA supporter will lie next to two giant “turkey carcasses” on a cutting board near a busy downtown intersection in Jackson on Wednesday. The eye-popping appeal aims to urge onlookers to try to relate to who is on their plate and give birds a break this holiday by opting for a delicious vegan roast centerpiece.
Question: What does “a delicious vegan roast centerpiece” consist of? Some bundle of seed oils and soy that was bioengineered in a lab? I may be in the minority here, or maybe in the majority, but I don’t think that sounds very appetizing to me.
“Turkeys are thinking, feeling individuals who feel pain just as humans do, and they don’t want to be stuffed and carved to pieces for a fleeting taste of their flesh,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “PETA’s provocative holiday spread encourages everyone to tuck into a savory vegan roast that gives everyone something to be thankful for.”
LOL. Who talks like that? “Carved to pieces for a fleeting taste of their flesh?” Look, if you are trying to convince people not to eat meat, then I don’t think these platitudes are going to work. You need to appeal to people, not turn them off. Nonetheless, I don’t think the display sent the message like they hoped it would.
How many people do you think were convinced to go vegan this holiday? None? That’s what I thought.
That being said, some birds are food. And unfortunately for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, many Americans will not be partaking in a soy fest this Thanksgiving. And sadly for vegans, that is nothing more than a personal problem.
