Matt Rife finds new way to trigger haters... on a Jordan Peterson podcast roasting people crying about his Netflix special
When faced with cancelation, celebrities tend to do one of two things. One is to apologize, or at the very least, have your PR team write an apology on your behalf. The other is to lay low until the controversy or nontroversy dies down. Comedian Matt Rife went with option C: Naplam. Not only refuse to apologize but refuse in a way guaranteed to trigger haters more better than before. He did a podcast with Jordan Peterson.
To recap, the usual suspects tried to cancel Matt Rife over the following joke from his new Netflix special that a) they say makes fun of domestic violence, and, more importantly, b) kills.
He -- apologized -- to people who might be offended on Instagram and posted a link to something to help with their outrage over a joke many of them didn't even bother watching. That link went here:
Rife sat down with Peterson and explained the utter absurdity of people getting so angry about stuff that they find it necessary to broadcast to the world.
"You're on this Earth for such a limited amount of time. How insane is it to sit behind your phone and computer and complain about something you don't like? When you have a world at your hands of all the things you do like. What an absolute waste of energy, time, and emotion.
Rife followed up with a quick lesson of where comedy comes from, which in this case, started when he was at a diner with friends, and the waitress had a little mark under her eye. He and his friends started clowning about it with things that were so ridiculous, that it got worked into a bit. That's it.
I won't call them people, but the randos on X and bitterly partisan bloggers on the attack either have a gross misunderstanding of what comedy is, are ignorant, or play stupid for political reasons.
This may come as a surprise, but when you to a Matt Rife show, it is longer than a thirty-second video of him doing crowd work. He explained on KFC Radio recently that girls who are fans of his TikToks would drag their boyfriends to his show. After an hour of comedy, the boyfriends were the ones who were fans. That's what his comedy is and has always been.
But the usual collection of haters claims Rife is using "misogyny" because he's desperate for dudes to like him. Instead, he should be wearing a crocheted pink hat and rubbing his "real fans" backs when they're crampy.
I just hope Matt Rife knows what's coming. Not apologizing for a joke is one thing. Now that he's hanging out with Jordan Peterson, to a huge part of the entertainment world he is now no better then a January 6th supporter and EVERY joke he makes is going to be criticized. He's in Joe Rogan, Dave Portnoy, and Chris Pratt territory.
