Mamdani desecrates Ronald Reagan's classic quote on government "help" to push his socialist run grocery store

According to Ronald Reagan, “Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem.” Many would agree this is, in fact, true. Some may even go as far as to agree that “the nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the Government, and I'm here to help.” Mamdani, however, believes otherwise. In fact, he believes the government is the solution to all your problems in life -- despite it being the entity that makes nearly everyone worse off.

You only need a fraction of a brain to realize the reason New York City is one of the most expensive places in the world to live is because of government overreach. This includes insane rent control, high tax rates, and a forever-increasing public sector, to name a few. Unsurprisingly, places where the government “helps” less result in a lower cost of living. And while correlation does not mean causation, if the shot fits — it fits! Nonetheless, common sense proves that the people can largely blame the high cost of living on the government. Mamdani lacks common sense, which is why he has doubled down on the idea that the government will fix anything and everything.
According to Mamdani, the way to help those struggling to make ends meet is through city-run grocery stores. While Reagan once warned about governments like this, Mamdani believes there is no bigger savior than his administration.
According to ABC 7:
The first city-run grocery store will open in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx by the end of the year, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said.
It is part of a plan for the city to run five stores, one in each borough, by the end of the mayor's first term.
Mamdani added that there is nothing more terrifying than working all day and being unable to feed one’s family. This is why he is going to “use the power of government to lower prices and make it easier for New Yorkers to put food on the table." While it is great that someone in office is pretending to care about people struggling to make ends meet, the fact that he believes five poorly run grocery stores that might never come to fruition will fix anything is arrogant, to say the very least.
We can point to several examples of government-run grocery stores in the U.S., and they almost always fail. This is because unsustainable losses and government incompetence are not a good business model. And when you combine reality with the fact that it will cost $12 million to operate each store, in addition to the $30 million it will take to build, it is safe to conclude this will, in fact, fail.
For a government that struggles to balance its budget, you would think the last thing it should be doing is explaining and spending more money, but clearly, common sense is not so common in this administration.
