Mayor Zohran Mamdani campaigned on the idea that New York City would become affordable for all. He promised the cost of living would be lower once he ushered in his Communist utopia. However, after several months into his first term, rent has hit an all-time high. Who could have possibly guessed that?

According to the New York Post:

The average price tag for a place to live just hit a jaw-dropping $6,655 a month, an all-time high, according to fresh data from Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group.

The average mortgage payment last year was $2,030. The fact that the average cost of rent is almost triple that in NYC is astonishing and something only possible in the most left-leaning municipalities.

Do you think it is just a coincidence that the more liberal a place is run, the more expensive everything becomes?

That’s a brutal 10% jump from a year ago, and real estate pros are pointing straight at Mayor Mamdani’s incoming rent freeze on stabilized units as one of the culprits, along with a looming pied-a-terre tax that brokers say is only going to squeeze the market harder. The pain is compounded by a record-low number of vacant apartments across the city, leaving desperate renters with almost nowhere to turn.

NYC already had some of the strongest rent control laws in the country. But for some reason, that never seemed to make the city any more affordable. Why do you think that is?

The median rent, meanwhile, sits at $5,295, up 6% from last July, though it held flat month over month after climbing 3% in both June and July from May’s previous record of $5,125.

The worst part about this is that the mayor will almost certainly blame Capitalism. The left never takes accountability for anything. This is why we can only expect the situation to become exponentially worse, while he continues to promise more free stuff. What a disgrace.
