Kyle Rittenhouse is being sued by the convicted child molester Joseph Rosenbaum's estate after he killed him in self-defense in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Aug. 25, 2020. The lawsuit was filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
Texas Scorecard reported that the estate of Joseph Rosenbaum filed a lawsuit against Rittenhouse, along with several police officers, and other officials and entities whom the suit accuses of wrongful death, negligence, and 13 other claims.
The Rittenhouse case was probably the most controversial trial in the country that year.
The filing alleges that law enforcement basically allowed ‘armed vigilantes’ to run amok and that local agencies “directly caused” Rosenbaum’s death in concert with Rittenhouse’s bullets.
“During the protests, private citizens took up arms and patrolled the streets of Kenosha, acting as law enforcement agents,” the lawsuit alleges. “Many of them had posted racist messages and threatened violence on social media before descending upon Kenosha. They made their plans known to law enforcement agents.”
The lawsuit claims that Rosenbaum was one of the “peaceful protesters” who came out that nice. That’s weird, I think I remember a different set of events that night based on reports.
We already know that Rosenbaum spent most of his adult life in prison after preying upon five young boys. According to NPR, Rosenbaum's fiancée, Kariann Swart, pressed charges prior to his death against him for domestic abuse. Rosenbaum had been released from a hospital following a suicide attempt hours before his death.
“According to Rittenhouse's lawyers, Rosenbaum approached Rittenhouse and attempted to ‘engage’ him. Afraid, Rittenhouse took off running and Rosenbaum gave chase,” according to NPR. “During the trial, Rittenhouse and another witness said that Rosenbaum had reached for Rittenhouse's gun.”
We literally have video footage of Rosenbaum chasing down Rittenhouse. But the suit alleges that "there was no justification for Defendant Rittenhouse to point his weapon at Joseph Rosenbaum."
Rittenhouse posted to X on Friday that he is "I’m being sued again for defending my life."
Rittenhouse, who was 17 at the time of the event, is now 20 years old and lives in Texas.
“These lawsuits are making it harder and harder for me to move on with my life,” Rittenhouse told Texas Scorecard. “It is extremely difficult to go outside without fear of being harassed or assaulted because of the lies spread in these lawsuits. No one should have to continue to defend the fact that they acted in self defense.”
This is not the first time Rittenhouse has been sued regarding the events that took place that night. But let's hope it's the last.Latest
