Joe Scarborough: Media Bias Against Kavanaugh is Dividing the Country
Joe Scarborough makes some good points about half the time. The other half, he can go step on a Lego. Dance on it, maybe. Today we have good Joe, blasting the media's Kavanaugh coverage (see Kavanaugh Accuser Changes Story. Claims He 'Might' Have Committed Rape and MSNBC Wants the FBI to Investigate Kavanaugh Being Rude to US Senators). It would be nice if he called out his own network, which remains the worst offender. But it would also be nice if people accepted biological reality without insisting one can simply identify as a grasshopper. Gotta take our wins as we get them.
Joe Scarborough mused about parties he and Mika attended over the weekend. Yes, there was much talk of Republicans sucking. But also how the Democrats suck, with a bonus round of Ford's testimony, which seemed flimsy. Two things you don't hear about on any media outlet not named FoxNews. Roll tape:
But the part that you don’t really see in the media that much is they were also attacking the Democratic senators and quite a few people that we talk to raised questions about Dr. Ford’s story. That’s something in 24/7 news coverage, at least in mainstream media, you never hear anyone talk about. They feel like if there were no corroborating witnesses, they will get absolutely slammed. The media coverage of this has been so one-sided, that every single allegation made against the judge was true.
Gee, you think maybe Americans are bothered by a good man having his whole life blown up simply because he values the Constitution as is? Might be onto something there, Joe-Joe.
This is what happened in the run up to the trump election. No one even considered the possibility that Donald Trump might win. So they were shocked by it. Nobody has dared say, even the Republicans, that part of Dr. Ford’s story just might not add up. So you have the complete absence in the mainstream media. You have conservatives saying to each other, but, wait a second. There’s no this, there’s no that. So then Donald Trump goes and he says it. And it is like lighting a keg on fire. And I will say not just because Donald Trump divides every day in a week that is unbecoming of a president, but because the media has also given Donald Trump a massive opening, and they allow him to light dynamite and blow the whole thing up.
Mostly true. The media doesn't "help" or "allow" Trump to divide the country. The media did a good job dividing the country for the eight years before President Trump became a thing. But here's the damage done by the media Scarborough doesn't seem to realize: a lot of us defend the media when Trump lines them up in his sights. We've called Trump out for his less than stellar record on the First Amendment, even before the election.
But despite media sometimes being right about Trump, despite sometimes Trump sounding like a child on Twitter, media has proven conservatives' bias complaints against media over the way they've covered Brett Kavanaugh. More-so than they did at any point over the past two years of 24/7 all Trump hate all the time.
So the next time our president attacks the press, the press shouldn't insist on everyone defending them. They made their bed, time to sleep in it.
