California Gov candidate tries to set ground rules how a reporter will be allowed to interview him, and wow is this awkward

California gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra began his interview with KTLA, demanding certainty that they had no intent to make him look bad and that they intended to do a profile piece on him. The problem with this is that that is not how interviews work. The person interviewed does not typically decide what is asked or how it is asked. And if you hope to be the most powerful man in one of the biggest states in the country, you'd better get used to “gotcha moments” in the media. Not only was this “awkward,” but it was pathetic, to say the very least.

Again -- this is not how these things work. What he very likely meant was that he would not think twice about ending the interview right there if they even thought about not prompting him positively. This actually says a lot about the way he intends to govern, as he has no problem implying he will only deal with the media when it is used as propaganda in his favor. This would also mean it would not be surprising if his press conferences were carefully crafted with approved questions, almost in a very Biden-like way.
And do not for a second forget what kind of person we are dealing with.
According to a 2024 article in the Washington Examiner:
House Republicans pressed Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra on Wednesday to provide an answer for losing track of thousands of unaccounted migrant children and fumbling the vetting process that allegedly has allowed some minors to be sent to gang members and even a strip club.
The fact that this is one of California's leading candidates is deeply concerning. The state will not recover if this man is in charge -- as we can be certain the sanctuary policies in place will be nothing compared to how he plans to run things. And to claim the most vulnerable people will be hurt if he gets elected, as proven by the fact that he lost thousands of migrant children, would be an understatement.
