It wouldn’t be a Monday days before an election without another tale of political incivility. Last night a South Daytona, Florida Republican headquarters was used as a firing range. The incident must have happened at night when, thankfully, no one was in the building.
The windows of Volusia County’s Republican Party headquarters were found shot out Monday morning and four bullet holes were discovered inside the offices.
“We have never had any kind of vandalism before at a Republican Headquarters,” Tony Ledbetter, the chairman of Volusia County’s Republican Party, said in an email Monday morning. “It’s a small strip center and no other business was vandalized, so it was obviously politically motivated.”
There were no witnesses to the crime, but police are looking for surveillance video from neighboring businesses in efforts to identify the trigger-happy hobgoblin.
The media, however, is reporting it as “vandalism.”
Okay. Let’s not pretend if a Democrat headquarters was shot up, the media would plaster it all over their networks and label it “DEMOCRAT HEADQUARTERS TERRORIZED!” then find a way to blame Trump’s mean words.
Sending pipe bombs to political opponents is not okay. Sending bullets into the offices of political opponents is not okay. What set America apart for centuries was our civility in the midst of power shifts. We vote for change. Parties used to shift peacefully. Party balances have swayed for our country’s entire history.
But it seems almost suddenly, citizen crazies are taking it upon themselves to vote with violent action. Needs to stop. Now.
