When you nourish your body on nothing but limp lettuce and the recycled tears of children you denied bacon, you can't help but be a little shy of sane. At least that's how I explain the incessant cray cray emitting from whatever PETA has designated as its face (see Natalie Portman Compares Animal Treatment to Holocaust for PETA and PETA Releases Bizarre Vegetable Fruit Phallic Ad in Efforts to Fight “Toxic Masculinity”). As it turns out, the group isn't just a collection of looney tunes, they are also liars. "Allegedly." According to this story, PETA has told an epic fib claiming the owners of the star of A Dog's Way Home are abusive.

Well, the owners are biting back by filing a defamation lawsuit. Here's what happened. A group called "Paws for Effect" adopted Shelby, a mixed breed pup from a shelter in Tennessee. They were then wallopped by a smear campaign from PETA just ahead of A Dog's Way Home's release.

In docs obtained by TMZ ... Paws says PETA first fired off an email to an exec at Sony Pictures, the distributor of 'Dog's Way Home' ... alleging Paws had racked up citations under the Animal Welfare Act. PETA allegedly repeated that claim to an "unknowable" number of film industry types.

Paws says PETA's email is a straight-up lie, and insists it's never received a single citation under the AWA. According to docs, PETA either knew its statement about Paws was false, or could easily have found out if it did the slightest bit of research.

Here's hoping that the judge rolls up the complain and bops PETA on the nose.

PETA, despite all their noise and activity, is pretty ineffective when you take into account all of the recent headlines it's placed itself into. Like a puddle of surprise vomit on your way to morning coffee. You never liked those socks much anyway.

Anytime five leftists have the same stupid opinion on Twitter, Hollywood changes casting decisions, companies pull advertising. Yet PETA has shown themselves to be so bonkers, they're the only leftist organization that even other leftists simply shrug their shoulders.

Advice to PETA: next time you make a mess, rub your nose in it until it bleeds. The rest of us have animals to actually love and care for.
