Violent Teen Brawl Breaks Out In D.C. Chipotle After Announcement To Start Charging Parents

Washington, D.C. has a teen crime problem. This is why federal prosecutors indicated they would charge parents who fail to prevent their kids from “teen takeovers.” The parents did not subsequently control their teens, and only days after that announcement, several teens got in a brawl and started fighting and throwing chairs at each other in a local Chipotle.
NEW: Teens start fighting and throwing chairs at each other in a DC Chipotle just hours after U.S. Attorney for DC Jeanine Pirro said she would prosecute parents of teens involved in "teen takeovers."

The video shows teens becoming increasingly violent while hurling furniture, with one individual hitting another person in the back of his head with a high chair. Witness statements also claim one fearful little girl was covered in her father’s arm during the debacle, while innocent patrons could be heard screaming on the other side of the restaurant, according to the New York Post.
The combatants largely concealed their faces with medical masks, and all wore similar all-black outfits.
If I did not know any better, I might say them wearing masks proves this was planned. I do know better, however, so I will not be saying that.
On Friday, United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro announced that her office will step in and prosecute parents of minors involved in the increasingly frequent “teen takeovers,” specifically citing similar instances of chaos in the city’s Navy Yard neighborhood.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro issued a stark warning to parents allowing their children to participate in disruptive teen takeovers in Washington, D.C.: “Parents, do your job, or we will do ours.” pic.twitter.com/13xdMcOgOX

If convicted of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, parents could face up to six months in jail.
“We’re going to charge them, and if you drop your kid off and you fail to supervise them or you let them skip school to join the chaos, you are going to face fines, court-ordered classes and possible jail time,” Pirro said.
According to the Heritage Foundation, “the last year of the Biden administration, the Washington, D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office charged 40 juveniles as adults for violent crimes. Contrast this with the first year of the second Trump term, wherein 66 juveniles were charged—a staggering increase of 65%.”
That tells you all you need to know, which is that being soft towards teens charged with violent crimes ensures more youth will commit said crimes. This is not rocket science, nor is it unpredictable. Anyone with a fraction of a brain can understand that holding people accountable for doing bad things results in fewer people doing that thing. Slapping people on the wrist, however, will ensure more people believe they can and will get away with said things. This is why prosecutors must start doing their jobs, which is what Pirro claims to be doing.
It is unclear how much crime will decrease as a result of instilling fear in the parents who fail to raise decent individuals, so draw your own conclusions. Nonetheless, it is about time America starts making crime illegal again -- and that starts in our nation’s capital.
No one is above the law, and that includes teens accused of violent crime. It is time prosecutors stop pretending to care and actually do a thing or two to uphold public safety.
