Banana Art Wall Vandalized to Enter Epstein Meme Hall of Fame

Courtney Kirchoff
December 10, 2019

Modern art is mostly a joke, but this time it's also a meme. As you undoubtedly heard, a duct-taped banana at Art Basel was listed for sale at $120k, proving my decision to get a degree was just dumb. Had I known slapping fruit on a wall would sell, I wouldn't have spent three years writing essays. Oh well. But this story has a mostly happy ending. Not only was the banana eaten, another "artist" came along and replaced the no-longer-hanging fruit with a message about Jeffrey Epstein. Sort of. It was misspelled. But so glorious is this troll, I can forgive the error.

Rod Webber even livestreamed this sucker.

From the New York Post:

The wall that featured the $120,000 duct-taped banana — before the fruit was gobbled up by a performance artist — was vandalized with the misspelled message, “Epstien didn’t kill himself.”

Rod Webber, 46, was arrested Sunday on charges of criminal mischief at Art Basel after livestreaming himself scrawling the conspiracy-theory message in red lipstick, according to the Miami Herald.

And here I thought the meme was dying a slow death. Unlike Epstein, who was dispatched quickly.

Rod Webber. The word "hero" gets thrown around a lot these days. But dang it if Webber doesn't join the legion of heroes who've taken the Epstein Didn't Kill Himself meme to epic heights. Webber made a decent point or two while he was creating his performance art. Art Basel set the precedent that pretty much anyone could create "art" with the Banana ala Ductape masterpiece, a work sure to join the great pantheon of creative wonders. Michaelangelo's David, Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Van Gogh's Starry Night, Troll who Maguyvered Nanner to Blank Wall. Upped only by Troll who Kept Meme Alive.

Also, vandalism is wrong. But I'm not sure this is vandalism. Maybe it's vandalism only because Webber misspelled Epstein. It's "i" before "e" except after "c" my brother. Next time you troll, run a quick Google search to spell it right.
