AP Actually Fact-Checks Trump's Opinion on 'Overrated' Meryl Streep. Yes, Really...

Team Crowder
January 10, 2017

If by some odd turn of events you missed it, Meryl Streep made a genuine butt of herself on Sunday at the Golden Globes. Instead of thanking her fellow gazillionaire elites for giving her a lifetime achievement award, Meryl decided to take some shots at President-elect Trump. All while clad in the remnants of a stained-glass window. Naturally, the Donald fired back, calling Streep "overrated." Sure he calls pretty much anyone he dislikes "overrated," it's still his opinion and insult. Even if it is sophomoric.

Well, the Associated Press responded to the kerfuffle in a hilariously absurd fashion. By fact-checking Donald Trump's opinion... This is what we'd call a "slow news day." Also, pathetic.

President-elect Donald Trump took to Twitter on Monday, calling Meryl Streep "one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood" following her speech Sunday night at the Golden Globe awards.

While "overrated" is an opinion, Streep, who took aim at Trump in her speech while accepting the Globes lifetime achievement award, holds the record for the most Academy Award nominations of any actor. She has earned 19 Oscar nominations and three wins, as well as a record 29 Golden Globe nominations and eight wins, and two Emmy Awards.

Sidestepping how stupid it is to actually fact-check an opinionated insult... well wait, maybe that's my point. It's inane to fact-check someone's opinionated insult. If we're going to participate in the playground tussle between one actress and one President-elect, must we pick sides and write think pieces which essentially say "NUH UH! You're stupider!" Imagine that line delivered by a whiny eight-year-old. Pick your gender.

Also, AP, your bias is showing. There's nothing wrong with finding an actress "rated" (for lack of a better term) where someone else might find her "overrated." But to write a piece trying to call out Trump for it? I'm a little embarrassed for you. But grateful, because insulting liberals is what I dine on for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sometimes second breakfast if I'm feeling peckish. So keep the dumbassery coming. I'll be hungry tomorrow.

But back to dearest Meryl. Streep, like many other left-wing celebs, believes she obligated to lecture the simple plebs "how it is" regarding politics. Because those of us in the audience who only have 2.5 bathrooms in our modest homes are clearly too stupid to live. She believes her own importance why? Because she won fancy trophies for playing pretend. Wait, sorry. Specifically three trophies from the Academy, eight from the Globes, and two from the Emmys. So her opinion isn't "overrated." It matters that many trophies-worth.

Speaking of left-wing celebs...
