Trey Gowdy: No FISA Authorization without the Steele Memo
The worst news of the week is that Trey Gowdy is retiring. Apparently he had his "f*** this s*** moment" and decided politics wasn't for him anymore. Which sucks, because we need more serious-minded people like him in Congress. Especially when it comes to making sense of the memo (see Trump Administration Officially Releases the Nunes Memo to the Public… and MSNBC’s Excuse to Downplay Memo: ‘Everyone is Biased’…).
Gowdy tried to do so this Sunday, and his key point is going to trigger the left. The big question coming from MemoGhaziPalooza is if there would even be an investigation without the Steele Dossier. Yes, the partisan opposition research paid for by Democrats.
"Oh, but Trey Gowdy is a right wing nutjob. Something something Beghazi something." You can hear the cries from the left as I type. Here's the rub with all that:
Multiple things can be true. Gowdy is weird like that.
The point is to make sure the peeps in the FBI are doing their job properly. More specifically, not using their position of power to behave like a vengeful ex-girlfriend. How are they supposed to give the Donald a fair hearing if they're unable to put aside their petty biases. There's nothing out of line with posing that question.
You don't have to believe the DEEEEEEP STATE is out to get Trump to admit that the memo raises a number of yuge questions. Thinking there's a problem with the FBI launching an investigation based on biased campaign material doesn't mean you're being fitted for a tin foil hat. Serious-minded people can raise serious questions.
Sadly, it seems there aren't many of those in Washington. And with Trey Gowdy leaving, there's going to be one less.
