So the left got their way when pretty much everyone banned the Confederate flag. Which means it’s time for them to go after another flag, because if you give the mouse a cookie… What’s in their crosshairs now? The POW/MIA flag—the flag created by families of POWs in response to their horrible treatment by the North Vietnamese.
But according to Newsweek writer Rick Perlstein, Vietnamese mistreatment of POWs is an awful myth, perpetrated by evil Americans and only useful to ‘venal right-wing politicians.’ Wonder how long he’s been dying to use the word “venal” in a sentence….
The article also alleges the POW/MIA flag is part of a ‘cult’ created by Richard Nixon. A racist cult. After reading the article twice, it’s still unclear how “racism” fits into the picture (which could be why many readers were miffed; see notes at the end of the article). The article is a sad mess that makes little sense. None.
And, as pointed out by the RedState and the Federalist, there is no historical proof to any of the Perlstein’s claims. Seems like he flipped through a history book at random, his eyes settled on the POW/MIA flag and viola! A new racist conspiracy theory!
Kudos to Newsweek for a creative article. It’s not historically accurate or viable, but since when has that mattered to the left? Remember kids, if it’s American, it has to be racist in some way, right? The left must find a racist/sexist/bigoted/homophobic/transphobic slant somehow, even if they have to pull it out of their butts. Because history and truth? Nah, stuff like that isn’t so important to the left. Just as long as it fits their narrative.
Next up on their racism list: the American flag. Since…why not?
