Gavin Newsom says he's giving poor people free diapers, but it turns out it's just another left-wing NGO scheme

Whenever a leftist official claims to be doing something for the greater good involving “free” things, it always seems to come with a catch. Providing free diapers to every new parent might sound good on paper. Still, when Gavin Newsom is involved, it is allegedly just another NGO scheme that makes the taxpayers worse off.

Why does it seem as if every time the left promises free things, accusations of corruption always seem to follow? Because in the pursuit to allegedly offer free diapers to parents, Newsom is being accused of "paying $20 million in taxpayer money to a nonprofit led by an executive who also sits on the board of his wife’s organization that promotes gender equity,” according to the New York Post.
The program aims to provide free diapers to newborns through hospitals statewide, but the deal has triggered a wave of scrutiny over how the nonprofit was chosen, and its proximity to Newsom’s political and personal network.
Steve Hilton would like to break it down for you.

“If you take the number of diapers they’re planning to send out and the amount of money that he’s spending on it, it’s 50 cents for each one, which is like 100 times more expensive if you just bought them in Costco,” Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton said Saturday.
Siebel Newsom co-founded the California Partners Project, which helped facilitate the partnership.
The Newsom Administration denies these allegations.
THIS IS FALSE.
MAGA and the NY Comic Book are once again spreading lies:
FACT: It’s a $6.2 million contract (not $20 million)
FACT: It covers 40 million diapers in year one — about 15.5 cents per diaper (not 50 cents as claimed).
FACT: Baby2Baby was chosen through a rigorous… https://t.co/Dpg8Dzrkzg

Instead of giving a non-profit millions of dollars, why not give parents a voucher for diapers at the store? Not only would that likely be more cost-effective for the state, but it also gives people the choice of what brands they want to use.
Why is it that whenever the left pretends to care, it always ends up with an NGO receiving millions of dollars in taxpayer funds? You do the math -- which is, apparently, not adding up.
Gavin Newsom just funneled $20 MILLION of California taxpayer money to a diaper program run by a nonprofit tied to his wife’s operation.
50 cents per diaper.
Costco sells them for 12-15 cents.
This isn’t “helping families.” It’s classic crony corruption.
Wake up, California,… https://t.co/IPFpsAlfzg

If the allegations against Newsom are true, that would be unsurprising. If the allegations are false, that would be surprising. Draw your own conclusion.
