The LA County Board of Supervisors does realize their job is to represent American citizens, right? Because, call me crazy, but I could have sworn it was never intended for them to vote on behalf of foreign nationals. I could be wrong, of course. However, if I didn’t know any better, I’d say it seems questionable for them to declare rent obligations void — especially since that likely comes at the expense of American private property rights. Then again, I’m no legal expert, and maybe the board’s decision to declare a state of emergency in response to the federal government enforcing immigration laws is somehow lawful. You know, because opposing lawful federal actions with… whatever this is… is totally legitimate.
Does any of that make sense? It shouldn’t. Because it makes absolutely zero sense why the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has declared an “emergency” over the ICE raids.
According to Fox News:
The measure was said to be a response to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids across LA County, which is home to more than 10 million people and one of the U.S.'s largest immigrant populations.
It’s likely home to one of the largest illegal immigrant populations, but I digress.
The county can now offer residents financial support if they have been impacted by the raids, including rent relief and can access state funds for any legal aid.
Will American citizens who have never broken federal laws be afforded this kind of support? No? Didn’t think so. And will illegal immigrants who have broken laws after entering the country — including those with criminal records — be given this benefit? …That’s what I thought.
"What’s happening in our communities is an emergency and Los Angeles County is treating it like one," LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath said in the statement.
Don’t you wish these representatives showed the same level of urgency for fire preparedness as they do for foreign nationals who have broken federal immigration laws?
"Declaring a Local Emergency ensures that the full weight of County government is aligned to support our immigrant communities who are being targeted by federal actions," she added.
I am no immigration expert, nor am I a lawyer, but I’d bet a lot of money that this is an unconstitutional power grab that tramples on the private property rights of Americans — but that’s just a hunch. Think of this situation as you will. Nonetheless, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has made it perfectly clear who they intend to represent, and it’s certainly not you. But what else is new?
